Beginner’s Round Hand – Strelley Hall

3rd September 2017 – Beginner’s Classic Round Hand Calligraphy Course
2:00pm to 5:00pm

Beginner’s Classic Round Hand (also called Foundational) is the first script you learn to understand calligraphy techniques. Holding the chisel nib at the correct angle and learning how to construct the letters using different strokes helps you understand that calligraphy is about ‘constructing and forming the letters’ not writing.

The workshops are light-hearted, fun and aimed to give a taster of the basic skills needed to produce this very popular beautiful script. Ideal for all those personal touches to your crafted cards or for generating your own unique designs.

Learn about the history of calligraphy and how to correctly hold and generate the strokes needed to create this lovely script.
Finish the workshop by producing a final piece of your choice, demonstrating all that has been learned during the session.

Everything is provided for the class including a basic pen nib holder and nib, practice lines, letters and paper (all yours to keep) along with Jane’s years of knowledge and information on this historic skill. Many other products for excelling at this art will be available to buy on the day.

FOOD: Hot and cold refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop. Alternatively, the shop is situated next to the wonderful Mulberry Tree Cafe where you can purchase delicious food and refreshments at reasonable prices.

The course will cost £30.00 to include all materials, use of tools and teas / coffees throughout the day.

If you have attended one of these workshops previously then you will be eligible for a 10% discount on this course

A £10.00 deposit will secure your place and class sizes will be limited to 7 people so get in touch soon to book your place.

This has been enlightening in learning the formation of letters. As an ex-infant teacher, I spent many hours practising rounded writing with “Witch” pens and inks, but the formation was never really explained like this. Thank you.

Enjoyed the course – but would need much longer to master it. Very friendly course tutor willing to spend plenty of time with everyone.
