‘Elvin’ (Uncial) Script Calligraphy – Nottingham

If you are familiar with ‘Lord of the Rings’ then you will already be aware of ‘Uncial’ script.

Course Description:

Uncial is a form of script (written neither entirely in capital, or lower case letters) commonly used from the 4th to 8th centuries AD by Greek and Latin Scribes to produce world renowned manuscripts such as the Book of Kells.

On this one-day workshop you will have the opportunity to learn this technique and practice throughout the day. Sessions are always light hearted, fun and aimed to give an understanding of the skills needed to produce this very popular and beautiful script. Ideal for embellishing your crafted cards with those personal touches or generating your own unique designs.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your existing skills, this class offers an initial foundation in the art of elegant Uncial penmanship.

After a break for lunch you will learn about design, layout and how to use this script to its full potential. Complete a finished piece of your choice (several templates to choose from) by combining all the classic skills of the script.

Everything is provided for the class including a basic nib holder and chisel point pen nib (right or left handed available. Please confirm when booking), practice lines, letters and template images on paper (all yours to keep) along with Jane’s years of knowledge and information on this historic skill.

Many other products for excelling at this art will be available to buy on the day.

The course focus is always on fun and friendly creativity with lots of personal tuition from an experienced calligraphy artist.

FOOD: Hot and cold refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or, alternatively the shop is situated next to the wonderful Mulberry Tree Cafe where you can purchase delicious food and refreshments at reasonable prices.

The course cost includes materials, use of pens, ink etc and refreshments throughout the day and class size is limited to 8 students
