Valentine’s Day Special

Very belated New Year to you all. I hope this cold weather has not got you down and that it has just given you more time to practice your calligraphy by staying in!
Things have been very busy here at Calligraphy Arts world HQ, organising new dates and shows and most importantly new workshops!

Due to the success of ‘The Christmas card – Round Hand workshop’ that was held at the Leicester Guildhall in November, with many of you wanting to do a follow up ‘Mother’s Day card – Workshop’ I have worked my magic and am holding another two classes in Wygston’s House, Leicester on 7th March – please get booked in to save any disappointment.

I also have two other workshops to help celebrate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta.These are at the Newark Houses Museum in Leicester City and show the close connection this holds to Leicester thanks to the Leicestershire barons being at Runnymede when King John signed it on 15th June 1215 (I’ve been doing my homework…)
One workshop is aimed at children on May 29th with hourly sessions all day (it falls in the half term holiday). They will be able to learn ‘Gothic’ and write their names on the top of their Magna Carta certificates that they will be making / completing. A parent or guardian must accompany any children attending.

Book Your 1 Hour Taster
The adult version will be June 13th (the nearest Saturday to the signing of the Magna Carta) along with many other events that are be being held in and around Leicester. These will be the normal 3.5 hour lessons to learn Gothic / Gothic Capitals / Wax Seal work and maybe some illuminated letter work if we get time. Again you will be completing your own Magna Carta certificate to commemorate this historic event.

My final, but by all means not least, new workshops will be what we have called ‘Quick Introduction to Calligraphy Taster sessions at the Leicestershire Craft Centre in Market Harborough, again learning about Gothic lettering and the use of wax seals. So please do all come along to one of them to learn new skills and see how you can then use them in everyday use and what fun you can achieve by learning extra scripts.

I hope this will give you all a chance to come and get creative with calligraphy and again, if all goes well, I will look at doing a pre-Christmas card event probably in October or November.
